Catharsis
by
Bob Kurthy

There's a bright moon up above - A glowing ember
The lines on the road
The engine's hum - The wind
And the radio's ambient tone
The wind blows through my window
And memories spin in my mind
The curtain opens - And with joined hands
A cast of characters parades by

I don't want to sit and brood and yearn to return to the past
Cuz now I know that nothing can last
No such thing as the good old days
Just a blaze of a few good times within the haze
Lessons lie within interaction
Place no blame despite primal reaction
Can you see the connection?
You develop protection
Just look at it all as evolution in action

Fog streams by the headlight beams
A fleet of graceful spectres
Ghosts - They fly through the open window
And into my eyes
People gone from sight but remain to haunt me
Pages and pages - Why do I waste the ink?

[repeat chorus]

It grows clearer - The horde of ghosts
They are to be excorcised
Behind me now - This drive - All those pages
Through these I know what to keep
And what to throw away
Reach over and change the station
And toss the ashes out the window

[repeat chorus]
