12/23/4Technically. Really, it's 12/22 really late. At least, late for me lately. It's 2:20 am, and for many years that would be normal, but since I went to full-time as a manager, I've started accepting my age and going to bed earlier. The fact that I have to be up at 6:00 am two or three times a week no longer allows me to be up till 3 or 4 am every night. I've actually passed out before midnight a few times this year, which I haven't done since my teens, since I've usually worked nights or graveyard for a long time. Even when I was doing lunch shifts I didn't have to be up before 9:30. Last weekend I was up past 3:00 two nights in a row for the first time in a long while, and it should come as no surprise that both times the reason had to do with musicians.
Friday night I went and hung out at Devin's house where they were having a party / jam session with 20ish people hanging out, drinking and watching The Dark Crystal. Saturday was the third-to-last show for The Band. It's official. I've made flyers and sent an email to the list touting February as "The Grand Finale." There's one in January, too, but I plan to hype February with all I've got. I want the bar packed to the back wall. Sharing the bill are two bands that are old friends we've played many shows with and two bands that are the new home of two of The Bands' members. It's gonna be big!
I was so tired, I only intended to get on and type a couple things, but I'm already wandering as I try to remember what it was on my mind. Oh, yeah! Monday night Henry Rollins announced that it was his second-to-last show on Indie. After next Monday he's going on tour, and I guess he won't be coming back to the station after that. That's a bummer, cuz for some time now I've been calling his show the best two hours of my week. I've gone well out of my way to catch it every week, even driving around in my car heading absolutely nowhere just to have the radio on, which considering gas prices and my severe debt problems is saying something.
Okay, so as the year winds down, I'm saying goodbye to Henry, The Band, and my night-owl youth. Goodnight!
