KELSUNG PRODUCTIONS

12/6/4

Inspired by the usual year-end countdowns, and in the tradition of High Fidelity:

Top 5 pop albums of the 80's:

  1. Synchronicity - The Police
  2. Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
  3. The Joshua Tree - U2
  4. Rio - Duran Duran
  5. Kick - INXS

I'm open to comments, but that's a pretty definitive list. Sports by Huey Lewis And The News could squeeze in there.

Top 5 rock albums of the 90's:

  1. The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails (five years later, I can't stop raving!)
  2. Temple Of The Dog
  3. 40 oz. To Freedom - Sublime
  4. Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
  5. Korn

Number one is for sure, but that was a lot harder, and I could easily hear arguments that would shred me (I don't even own OK Computer by Radiohead, for example). I think the decade isn't far enough away yet to be cemented in my mind.

Top 5 classic rock albums of the 60's and 70's:

  1. Darkside Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
  2. The White Album - The Beatles
  3. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
  4. Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
  5. L.A. Woman - The Doors

Admittedly, my age makes it difficult to seperate the decades, so I combined them. Rumors by Fleetwood Mac barely misses. With more to choose from, I'm sure someone can point out an obvious ommision.

Realistically, the first list is deliberately narrower, cuz I qualified it as "pop", and the second list says "rock" since hip-hop clearly took a firm artistic stance in the 90's. I respect the genre, but own too little of it to be able to make legitimate claims. More genre-specific lists would be easier to create:

Top 5 pre-grunge metal albums:

  1. Master Of Puppets - Metallica (the peak of the genre)
  2. Paranoid - Black Sabbath (the definition of the genre)
  3. Back In Black - AC/DC (a debut, comeback and finale all in one)
  4. Powerslave - Iron Maiden
  5. British Steel - Judas Priest

See. That was more fun. Let the bashing begin.

Top 5 recent albums I wish I had, but I'm in severe debt:

  1. American Idiot - Green Day
  2. Contraband - Velvet Revolver
  3. Has Been - William Shatner
  4. Absolution - Muse
  5. eMOTIVe - A Perfect Circle

Think of that as my Christmas wish list.
