3/12/5After a couple weeks of nothing, we finally got back to mixing the Sarah GreeN material tonight. We recorded all but the vocals in one day, the whole band live to tape except for one guitar overdub. Then we got all the vocals done in two more sessions, with some sub-mixing of drums and guitars on two songs to free up extra tracks (for backing vocals on one and a cello on the other that we later decided against). After that came a couple weeks of nothing before we could all get together again to mix, within which we only did three rough mixes for her web-site: Play Sarah GreeN.
When we finally got together, we ended up spending all night on one song, because the ending has an extended jam with a solo that I move about in stereo, and wanted to get it just right. Then another weekend of nothing, as Sarah and Kenny went to Tuscon for a friends show and to do a lot of networking on the local scene. Then tonight, we finally got back to it.
And it turned out pretty well. We got two more songs done, and then did a deliberately overly commercial remix of one of them. The idea came up back when we were tracking the vocals and I was just playing with the tracks. Everyone had liked it so much, we decided to make it a hidden bonus track on the CD. Since I was given plenty of latitude, I went a little over the top with a big delay on the vocals. It turned out pretty cool. Not a proper representation of the song, but that was sort of the point.
We're getting right back into it tomorrow night, wherein we'll hopefully get one more song mixed, after which they have a show that I intend to attend. All in all, I think things are going well with it.
Then Sunday will be all about me, Brian and Sean making our own noise in the garage....
